D4Dog walking training and behaviour support is open for business, we opened on May 4th 2021. The first couple of years has been quite simply amazing. We have met some fantastic dogs and owners, discovered walks and locations we didn’t even know existed. Most importantly we have helped a significant number of clients, whether through providing a reliable dog walking service, or resolving unwanted or challenging dog behaviour issues. For more detailed information on this work, look at our FaceBook page or please take a moment to read the Blog or relevant page from the menu.

We are still accepting new clients for behaviour and training sessions, contact us if your dog(s) require Training and Behaviour support.

Training and Behavioural Support

Building on the success of D4Dog Professional Dog Walking Service, we are delighted to have introduced D4Dog Training and Behaviour Support. Our approach is simple and underpins everything we do, our goal is straightforward;–

Happy Dogs, Happy Owners, Happy Days.

We are seeing quite a few dogs who are struggling to adapt to the new post pandemic world, especially as owners are having to spend more time at work and working from home becomes less usual.

Drawing on the latest developments and research into dogs and their behaviour, including genetics, behavioural psychology and the growing field of Canine Science. We follow the operant conditioning approach, which uses positive reinforcement, combined with a control and management approach to support owners and their dogs to successfully resolve the concerns they have.

We have been highly successful at resolving issues such as ‘on lead reactivity’, ‘poor recall’, ‘lack of socialisation’, ‘over arousal’ and ‘general aggression’.

Personal History & dog background

After 28 years working in Education as a teacher, manager and senior leader, following redundancy, I decided a change of direction was required, but one that requires every bit as much care and attention, but now for dogs, rather than children and young adults.

Enhanced DBS checked and Level 3 Safeguarding trained – you can be sure your dog(s) are in safe professional hands.

Full Dog walking training and behaviouar insurance cover via PetPlan providing security and reassurance.

I grew up with dogs, German Shepherds and a Jack Russell, as an adult, our first dogs were Ben and Bob, GSD crossed Collie – litter brothers rescued from Battersea Dogs Home in 1990. Dog ownership as a baptism of fire!

Since 1998 we have had Old English Mastiff’s following the unintended adoption of a previously rescued breeding bitch, called Deefer (for which the business is named.) We joined the Old English Mastiff Owners club and have subsequently rescued 4 further English Mastiffs through the club.

Currently we have two dogs an English Mastiff – Freya (76kg), a tall and rather slim bitch, brindle in colour and approaching 6 years old in December 2023. We also have a Romanian Rescue – Milo an Anatolian Shepherd x Raven dog or Carpathian Shepherd – opinions differ. He is a large male (48kg) and we are his 3rd home in the UK following his arrival/rescue from Romania at 5 months of age. He has had a few issues and I have learnt a great deal from him!
